Cerro de San Cristóbal Sur
Type: Lookout with disabled access. Location: Sierra de Aracena y Picos de Aroche (Huelva, Almonaster La Real). The location of Cerro de San Cristóbal offers a viewing point with one of the widest views to be found in the geography of the province of Huelva. The limits of the territory of the nature park are clearly marked on the outside by the presence of eucalyptus and infrastructure (roads and mines), and on the inside by areas of chestnut groves, scrubland and holm oaks. From this south face of the mountain can be seen the village of Almonaster la Real, with its hill where two architectural elements of great interest are situated: - The mosque, a historic and artistic ensemble of exceptional value, as it is the only Al-Andalus mosque that has been preserved almost intact in a rural area in Spain. It was constructed during the Cordoba Caliphate, between the 9th and 10th centuries, inside the castle of Almonaster. - The bullring, built on the stones of the mediaeval castle and next to the Arab mosque, now a shrine, was opened in 1821. The site offers an excellent position for spotting migratory birds.
