NATURE PARK SIERRA DE ARACENA
In the most occidental area of the Sierra Morena, and North of the province of Huelva, you will find a group of mountain ranges of medium height where the domination of slate and quartz rock gives the ground a characteristic dark colour and in which the nature landscape is of great holm and cork oak forests. Furthermore, there are limy materials which break the relief and which have given the name to the Gruta de las Maravilla caves in Aracena, or to the rock Arias Montano in Alájar. In the Nature Park in the Sierra de Aracena and Picos de Aroche it is possible to see the Iberian lynx, Europe’s most endangered carnivore and the otter, specie which existed in abundance in the past and which today you will only find in the streams of the cleanest waters. Nevertheless, the bear has disappeared for ever and only some decades ago the wolf.
